Treize tableaux d’Edward Hopper constituent le point de départ du dernier film de Gustav Deutsch. Dans cette réflexion sur la mise en scène de la réalité et sur les dialogues entre peinture et cinéma, les œuvres de Hopper – transposées en tableaux vivants – sont le cadre dans lequel évolue Shirley, une actrice dont les pensées et les émotions nous permettent d’observer trois décennies agitées de l’histoire des États-Unis, des années 1930 au milieu des années 1960. Musiques originales de Christian Fennesz et David Sylvian.

Dertien schilderijen van Edward Hopper vormen het vertrekpunt van de nieuwste film van Gustav Deutsch. In deze reflectie op de enscenering van de werkelijkheid en de dialoog tussen schilderkunst en film vormen de werken van Hopper – omgezet in tableaux vivants – het kader waarin Shirley, een actrice, zich ontwikkelt. Haar gedachten en emoties stellen ons in staat drie woelige decennia van de Amerikaanse geschiedenis (van de jaren 1930 tot het midden van de jaren 1960) te observeren. Met originele muziek van Christian Fennesz en David Sylvian.

Thirteen paintings by Edward Hopper form the starting point of the latest film by Gustav Deutsch. In this reflection on the staging of reality and the dialogue between painting and cinema, the works of Hopper – transposed into “tableaux vivants” – represent the framework in which lives Shirley, an actress whose thoughts and emotions allow us to observe three turbulent decades of the history of the United States from the 1930s to the mid-1960s. Original music by Christian Fennesz and David Sylvian.
