EXPO: JOHAN GRIMONPREZ

CINEMATEK is ongetwijfeld de ideale plek voor Johan Grimonprez om zijn onderzoek rond verschillende leefomgevingen en media verder te ontwikkelen. In deze tentoonstelling beschrijft de kunstenaar de grote omwentelingen die de zevende kunst heeft doorgemaakt: de opkomst van de televisie, geëvoceerd via de figuur van Hitchcock, en die van het internet, via de vlogs, een instrument dat door de kunstenaar wordt gebruikt en dat vorm geeft aan All Memory is Theft: On the Commons, het centrale werk van de tentoonstelling dat in première wordt voorgesteld. De historische films die gewoonlijk in de foyer worden vertoond, ruimen plaats voor die van Grimonprez, als antwoord op de geschiedenis van de film zoals hij die probeert te schrijven.

CINEMATEK est sans aucun doute le lieu idéal pour que Johan Grimonprez y développe ses recherches autour des milieux et des medias différents. Par cette exposition, l’artiste retrace les grands bouleversements qu’a vécu le 7^e art : l’émergence de la télévision, évoquée par la figure d’Hitchcock, et celle d’internet, via les vlogs, outils utilisés par l’artiste et qui constituent All Memory is Theft: On the Commons, l’œuvre centrale de l’exposition, présentée en première. Les films historiques habituellement proposés dans le foyer feront place à ceux de Grimonprez, en réponse à l’histoire du cinéma qu’il s’attache à écrire.

CINEMATEK is without a doubt the ideal place for Johan Grimonprez to develop his research around different environments and media. Through this exhibition the artist traces the great upheavals that the 7^th art went through: the emergence of television, evoked by the figure of Hitchcock, and that of the internet, via vlogs, which are used by the artist and give shape to All Memory is Theft: On the Commons, the central work of the exhibition presented in premiere. Grimonprez’ films will replace the historical films usually shown in the foyer, as a kind of response to the film history that he endeavours to write.
