Construit sur deux axes narratifs différents qui se rejoignent, A Perfect Day raconte une histoire inspirée de celle personnelle de Khalil Joreige, à travers celle de son oncle qui fait partie des 17.000 Libanais portés disparus pendant la guerre, et l’histoire de la jeunesse de Beyrouth à laquelle les deux artistes appartiennent. Entre documentaire et fiction, les réalisateurs suivent leur protagoniste directement au cœur de la ville, sans reconstitution, et font du Beyrouth contemporain, entre ruines et chantiers, le centre du film.

A Perfect Day, geconstrueerd rond twee verhaallijnen die elkaar kruisen, vertelt een verhaal geïnspireerd door dat van Khalil Joreige, via dat van zijn nonkel, een van de 17.000 tijdens de oorlog ‘vermiste’ Libanezen, en de geschiedenis van de jeugd van Beiroet, waar Hadjithomas en Joreige op dat moment (in 2005) zelf deel van uitmaakten. De filmmakers volgen, ergens tussen fictie en documentaire in, hun protagonist rechtstreeks naar het hart van de stad zonder aan historische ‘reconstructie’ te doen en maken van het hedendaagse Beiroet tussen de ruïnes en de bouwwerven het echte onderwerp van de film.

A Perfect Day, constructed around two different intersecting narrative lines, tells a story inspired by that of Khalil Joreige, through that of his uncle, who was among the 17,000 Lebanese who were reported missing during the war, and the history of the youth of Beirut of which both Hadjithomas and Joreige were a part at that moment (in 2005). Between fiction and documentary, the filmmakers follow their protagonist directly to the heart of the city, without historic ‘reconstruction’, and make contemporary Beirut, between ruins and building sites, the centre of the film.
