Dans la description qu’elle fait de Elasticity, Chick Strand note : « Trois états mentaux qui m’intéressent : l’amnésie, l’euphorie, et l’extase. L’amnésie, c’est de ne pas savoir qui vous êtes et le vouloir désespérément. J’appelle cela “la Nuit blanche”. L’euphorie, c’est de ne pas savoir qui vous êtes et ne pas s’en soucier. C’est “le Rêve de la méditation”. L’extase, c’est savoir précisément qui vous êtes et ne pas s’en soucier. J’appelle cela “la Mémoire du futur”. »

Les cinq films qui composent cette séance démontrent la complexe interaction des « trois états mentaux » de Chick Strand tels qu’exprimés dans ses films : ils ne sont pas traités de manière exclusive, et peuvent représenter une idée de l’existence, de notre conscience et notre compréhension du monde et de nous-mêmes par l’intermédiaire des images que nous créons.

Chick Strand beschreef Elasticity als volgt: “ Er zijn drie mentale toestanden die interessant zijn: geheugenverlies, euforie en extase. Geheugenverlies is niet weten wie je bent en het wanhopig willen weten. Ik noem dit de Witte Nacht. Euforie is niet weten wie je bent en erom malen. Dit is de Droom van de Meditatie. Extase is precies weten wie je bent en er nog steeds om malen. Ik noem dit het Geheugen van de Toekomst. ”

Deze vijf films tonen de complexe interactie van Strands ‘drie mentale toestanden’ zoals ze in haar films tot uiting komen: hoe ze elkaar niet uitsluiten, en hoe ze misschien een sjabloon voor het bestaan kunnen zijn, voor ons bewustzijn en begrip van de wereld en van onszelf, doorheen de beelden die we maken.

In her description of Elasticity, Chick Strand wrote : “ There are three mental states that are interesting : amnesia, euphoria and ecstasy. Amnesia is not knowing who you are and wanting desperately to know. I call this the White Night. Euphoria is not knowing who you are and not caring. This is the Dream of Meditation. Ecstasy is knowing exactly who you are and still not caring. I call this the Memory of the Future. ”

These five films demonstrate the complex interaction of Chick’s “ three mental states ” as expressed in her films : how they are not mutually exclusive, and how they may represent a template for existence, for our awareness and understanding of the world and ourselves through the images we make.
