Blue Orchids, waarvoor Grimonprez beeldmateriaal hergebruikt van interviews die hij deed terwijl hij werkte aan Shadow World (2016), is een diptiek over twee deskundigen aan weerszijden van de wereldwijde wapenhandel. De verhalen van gewezen The New York Times-oorlogscorrespondent Chris Hedges en van voormalige wapenhandelaar Riccardo Privitera bieden een ongewone context voor schokkende onthullingen over de oorlogsindustrie. Grimonprez maakt zowel gebruik van hun persoonlijke als politieke geschiedenis en onthult geleidelijk de diepten van trauma en dubbelhartigheid, waardoor de wapenhandel als een symptoom van een ernstige ziekte wordt gezien: hebzucht. In Raymond Tallis | On Tickling beweert filosoof/neuroloog Raymond Tallis dat bewustzijn niet een inwendige constructie is maar veeleer een rationele. Vertrekkend van het intrigerende idee dat mensen er fysiek niet toe in staat zijn om zichzelf te kietelen, onderzoekt Tallis het filosofische idee dat we alleen onszelf kunnen worden via dialoog met anderen.

Réutilisant des fragments d’entretiens menés lorsqu’il travaillait sur Shadow World (2016), Grimonprez confronte dans Blue Orchids un duo d’experts qui se situent aux deux pôles du commerce mondial des armes. Les récits de l’ancien correspondant de guerre du New York Times Chris Hedges et de l’ancien marchand d’armes Riccardo Privitera fournissent un contexte inhabituel pour des révélations choquantes sur l’industrie de la guerre. S’appuyant sur les histoires personnelles et politiques des deux intervenants, Grimonprez révèle petit à petit les profondeurs du traumatisme et de la duplicité, identifiant le commerce des armes comme un symptôme d’une maladie grave : la cupidité. Dans Raymond Tallis | On Tickling, le philosophe et neurologue Raymond Tallis soutient que la conscience n’est pas une construction interne, mais plutôt relationnelle. L’idée que les humains soient incapables de se chatouiller eux-mêmes amène Tallis à explorer la notion philosophique selon laquelle nous nous construisons uniquement grâce au dialogue avec les autres.

Re-using footage of interviews he conducted while working on Shadow World (2016), Blue Orchids creates a diptych of two experts on opposite sides of the global arms trade. The stories of former New York Times war correspondent Chris Hedges, and of former arms dealer Riccardo Privitera, provide an unusual context for shocking revelations about the industry of war. Making use of both their personal and political histories, Grimonprez gradually reveals the depths of trauma and duplicity, situating the arms trade as a symptom of a profound illness: greed. In Raymond Tallis | On Tickling, philosopher/neurologist Raymond Tallis argues that consciousness is not an internal construct, but rather relational. Through the intriguing notion that humans are physically unable to tickle themselves, Tallis explores the philosophical notion that we become ourselves only through dialogue with others.
