Le film reflète l’importance que Joana Hadjithomas et Khalil Joreige accordent à l’histoire en marge de l’histoire officielle et celle qu’ils donnent, dans leur approche artistique, aux archives. Ils retracent l’aventure oubliée, aux allures surréalistes, d’un projet de fusée scientifique mené dans les années 1960 par un groupe d’étudiants de l’université arménienne de Beyrouth. À la recherche des documents, photos et films pratiquement disparus, et face à l’absence du projet dans la mémoire et l’imaginaire collectifs et individuels, les artistes racontent aussi ces années de panarabisme, le déclin du projet spatial après la guerre de 1967 imposé par Israël et les transformations du monde arabe.

De film weerspiegelt het belang dat Hadjithomas en Joreige hechten aan de geschiedenis die zich in de marge van de officiële geschiedenis afspeelt – alsook, in hun artistieke benadering, aan archieven. Ze sporen het vergeten avontuur op van het wetenschappelijke raketproject dat in de jaren 1960 werd aangegaan door een groep studenten van de Armeense universiteit in Beiroet, een avontuur met surrealistische allures. De kunstenaars zijn op zoek naar documenten, nagenoeg verdwenen foto’s en films en worden daarbij geconfronteerd met de afwezigheid van het project zowel in het individueel en collectiefgeheugen als in de individuele en collectieve verbeelding. Tegelijk verhalen ze ook over de jaren van het panarabisme – tot de door Israël opgelegde neergang ervan, in 1967 – en de transformaties in de Arabische wereld.

The film reflects the importance Hadjithomas and Joreige attach to history taking place in the margins of official history – as well as, in their artistic approach, to archives. They trace the forgotten adventure of the rocket scientist project conducted in the 1960s by a group of students of the Armenian university in Beirut, an adventure with surrealist allures. The artists are in search of documents, virtually disappeared photos and films, which confront them at the same time with the project’s absence from collective as well as individual memories and imaginings. At the same time, they also tell about the years of pan-Arabism – until its decline in 1967, imposed by Israel – and the transformations in the Arab world.
