Une méditation sur l’illusion de faire des films, tournée dans les coulisses d’un autre film en train de se faire sur les plages « irréelles » de Sidi Ifni, au Maroc. On y voit d’étranges activités, sans commentaire ni dialogues. Comme un fragment de film, déterré dans un futur lointain, qui dépeint un monde halluciné dans un noir et blanc nébuleux.

Een meditatie op de illusie van filmmaken. Terwijl een film gedraaid wordt over de etherische stranden van Sidi Ifni in Marokko, wordt achter de schermen een andere film opgenomen. A Distant Episode toont vreemde activiteiten, zonder commentaar of dialoog. Hij is als een filmfragment, opgegraven uit een verre toekomst – een wazige, zwart-witte, hallucinogene wereld.

A meditation on the illusion of filmmaking, shot behind-the-scenes on a film being made on the otherworldly beaches of Sidi Ifni, Morocco. The film depicts strange activities, with no commentary or dialogue ; it appears as a fragment of film, dug up in a distant future – a hazy, black and white, hallucinogenic world.

Un film amateur en Super 8 sur les paysages de Los Angeles vus par des immigrants philippins qui questionne l’identité culturelle en documentant les croisements entre la culture pop américaine et les traditions philippines.

Een toeristische Super 8-film over het landschap van Los Angeles gezien door Filippijnse immigranten, die culturele identiteit onderzoekt door de snijpunten tussen Amerikaanse popcultuur en Filippijnse tradities te documenteren.

A Super 8 tourist film about the Los Angeles landscape through the lens of Filipino immigrants, examining cultural identity by documenting the intersections of American pop culture and Filipino traditions.

Sur commande du Chicago Film Archive, et réalisé en collaboration avec le musicien de jazz Phil Cohran, Scales in the Spectrum of Space explore les documents de la vie urbaine et de l’architecture à Chicago. À partir de 70 heures de matière issue de trente films différents, Scales offre un point de vue sur le pouls qui anime la métropole du Midwest.

In opdracht van het Chicago Film Archive en in samenwerking met jazzmuzikant Phil Cohran onderzoekt Scales in the Spectrum of Space de gedocumenteerde geschiedenis van stadsleven en architectuur in Chicago. Gefilterd uit 70 uur beeldmateriaal uit 30 verschillende films, neemt Scales de pols van de Midwest-metropool.

Commissioned by the Chicago Film Archive and in collaboration with jazz musician Phil Cohran, Scales in the Spectrum of Space explores the documented histories of urban life and architecture in Chicago. Culled from 70 hours of footage and incorporating 30 different films, Scales weighs in on the pulse of the midwest metropolis.

Personne – c’est quelqu’un, personne, tout le monde. C’est Nous pris dans le cours du temps. Constamment, en vain. Le Moi est le besoin permanent de s’affirmer.

Personne – dat is iemand, niemand, eender wie. Dat zijn wij in de loop der tijd. Aanhoudend, tevergeefs. Het zelf, dat is de behoefte aan permanente zelfbevestiging.

Personne – this is somebody, nobody, anyone. This is us in the course of time. Persistently, in vain. The self is the need for permanent self-assertion.
