Pour sa troisième édition, l’Âge d’Or Festival propose deux compétitions : ÂGE D’OR et IMPATIENCE. Un Jury international composé de Mieke De Wulf (présidente), Shai Heredia et Mark Toscano décernera le Prix de l’Âge d’Or (5 000 €) et le Prix Impatience (2 500 €) dans les compétitions éponymes. Un Young Jury composé d’étudiants en écoles d’art remettra également un prix (1 000 €) à un film de la compétition Âge d’Or. Les films des deux compétitions se côtoieront à l’intérieur de sept programmes poétiques et subversifs.
Voor deze derde editie, stelt het Âge d’Or festival twee competities voor: ÂGE D’OR en IMPATIENCE. De internationale jury, samengesteld uit Mieke De Wulf (voorzitster), Shai Heredia en Mark Toscano, zal de Âge d’Or-prijs (€ 5.000) en de Impatience-prijs (€ 2.500) toekennen. Studenten van verschillende kunstscholen zullen als ‘Young Jury’ eveneens een prijs (€ 1.000) toekennen aan een film uit de Âge d’Or-competitie. De films uit de twee competities worden samen opgenomen in zeven verschillende poëtische en subversieve programma’s.
For its third edition, the Âge d’Or Festival is running two competitions: ÂGE D’OR and IMPATIENCE. An international Jury comprised of Mieke De Wulf (president), Shai Heredia and Mark Toscano will be awarding the Âge d’Or Prize (€ 5,000) and the Impatience Prize (€ 2,500) in the eponymous competitions. A Young Jury composed of art school students will also be awarding a prize (€ 1,000) to a film in the Âge d’Or competition. Films from both competitions will run alongside each other within seven poetic and subversive programs.
Mieke De Wulf est productrice. Jusqu’en 2009, elle œuvre au sein de A Private View, société de production gantoise qu’elle a co-fondée en 1994 et où elle a développé et accompagné plus de 25 films, fictions et documentaires, tous distribués internationalement. Elle est également la fondatrice et directrice de Art Cinema OFFoff, une plateforme de projection et de recherche dévolue au cinéma expérimental. Depuis 2009, elle enseigne la production aux départements cinéma de la School of Arts à Gand et de la LUCA School of Arts à Bruxelles. Elle travaille actuellement comme consultante freelance et comme productrice de films expérimentaux et documentaires.
Mieke De Wulf is producente en lineproducer. Tot 2009 werkte ze voor het Gentse productiehuis A Private View, dat ze in 1994 mee oprichtte en waar ze op meer dan 25 langspeelfilms en documentaires heeft gewerkt, die ook internationaal gedistribueerd werden. Ze is de bezieler van Art Cinema OFFoff, een vertonings- en onderzoeksplatform voor experimentele film, waar ze tot vandaag instaat voor de zakelijke leiding. Sinds 2009 doceert De Wulf filmproductie aan de filmafdelingen van de School of Arts in Gent en LUCA School of Arts in Brussel. Daarnaast is ze nog actief als freelance-consultant en producer van experimentele films en documentaires.
Mieke De Wulf is producer as well as line producer. Until 2009, she worked for Ghent production house A Private View, which she co-founded in 1994 and where she has worked on more than 25 internationally distributed films, both feature films and documentaries. She is the founder and manager of Art Cinema OFFoff, a screening and research platform for experimental film. Since 2009 De Wulf teaches film production at the film departments of School of Arts, Ghent and LUCA School of Arts, Brussels. She is currently working as a freelance consultant and a producer of experimental films and documentaries.
Shai Heredia est cinéaste et programmatrice. Après ses études au St. Xaviers College (Bombay) et au Goldsmiths College (Londres), elle fonde Experimenta, le festival international du cinéma expérimental en Inde (2003). Elle a conçu des programmes de cinéma expérimental pour des festivals et des salles indépendantes à travers le monde, dont la Berlinale et la Tate Modern de Londres. Son film I Am Micro, coréalisé avec Shumona Goel (2012), a été montré aux festivals de Toronto, Londres, Rotterdam, et à L’Âge d’Or en 2014. Acclamé par la critique, il a reçu un National Award du gouvernement indien. An Old Dog’s Diary, le dernier film en date de Heredia et Goel (2015) a reçu quant à lui le prix du meilleur court métrage au BFI London international Festival. Mark Toscano travaille depuis 2003 à l’Academy Film Archive à Los Angeles, où il est spécialisé dans la programmation, la conservation et la préservation de films d’artistes. Il opère à partir des collections de plus de cent cinéastes, et a supervisé la conservation et la préservation de centaines de films, dont ceux de Stan Brakhage, Gus Van Sant, Pat O’Neill, et de nombreux autres. En 2016, le festival crée un nouveau prix, le YOUNG JURY PRIZE (1 000 €). Ce prix sera décerné à un des films de la compétition de l’Âge d’Or par un jury d’étudiants issus des écoles d’art bruxelloises. De cette manière, le festival entend favoriser la rencontre entre des artistes en devenir et une création cinématographique actuelle et audacieuse dont il se veut aujourd’hui le reflet. En plus del’attribution de ce prix, les jurés interviendront comme ambassadeurs du festival dans le cadre du projet ABCinema : une initiative soutenue par le programme Creative Europe de l’Union européenne.
Le YOUNG JURY 2016 se compose de Lola Biard (étudiante en BAC2 à l’ERG), Mierien Coppens (étudiant en master Cinéma à la LUCA School of Arts), Vinnie De Craim (bachelier en Cinéma de fiction au RITCS), Maxime Jean-Baptiste (étudiant en BAC3 à l’ERG), Jean Tertain (étudiant en master Vidéo à l’ERG). En 2017, les jeunes jurés se verront également offrir une carte blanche à CINEMATEK.
In 2016 creëert het festival een nieuwe prijs, de YOUNG JURY PRIZE (€ 1 000). Een jury van studenten aan Brusselse kunstscholen reikt deze prijs uit aan een film uit de Âge d’Or 2016-competitie. Hij wil de ontmoeting tussen opkomende kunstenaars bevorderen en actuele en gedurfde films ondersteunen, wat precies ook de doelstelling van het festival is. Naast hun deelname aan deze prijs, interveniëren de juryleden ook als ambassadeurs van het festival in het kader van het ABCinema-project. ABCinema is een Europees initiatief dat wordt ondersteund door het Creatief Europa-programma van de Europese Unie.
De YOUNG JURY 2016 bestaat uit Lola Biard, studente BAC2 aan ERG; Mierien Coppens, masterstudent Film aan LUCA School of Arts; Vinnie De Craim, bachelorstudent Film aan het RITCS; Jean Tertain, masterstudent Video aan ERG; en Maxime Jean-Baptiste, student BAC3 aan ERG. In 2017 krijgen de jonge juryleden ook een carte blanche bij CINEMATEK.
In 2016, the festival creates a new prize, the YOUNG JURY PRIZE (€ 1 000). A jury consisting of students from Brussels art schools will award this prize to a film from the 2016 Âge d’Or competition. As such, it aims to encourage upcoming artists to meet each other and to support contemporary and bold filmmaking, which today is precisely the festival’s goal. In addition to their participation in this award, jury members will also intervene as ambassadors of the festival in the context of the ABCinema project. ABCinema is a European initiative supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme.
